The Best Pizzeria in West London

There are so many quirky and nice aspects to Guino&Nunzio’s Italian restaurant in Ealing Broadway, it is hard to know where to start. I recently made a visit to interview the founder, breaking down her favourite aspects of the visit...

A lovely marriage by Nunzio, from Sicilia and his wife Edyta, from Poland resulted in the opening of the restaurant back in 2017. The couple have put all their heart and soul into feeding their customers- from delicious pizza to other Sicilian authentic cuisines.

“All ingredients we use is from Sicily” says Mrs Edyta, “we serve only home-made food, and do not use freezers at all. The delivery comes twice a week and also Nunzio’s family send us their own olive oil. Everything is fresh and made by my husband. Our crew is mostly Italians, because we want to work with the people who understand Italian food and all process of preparation and cooking.”

And that is true. Gino&Nunzio is not another Jamie Oliver’s restaurant. It is a unique and independent place, where you get an honest portion of pizza and fall in love at first bite! The heart of the restaurant is an Italian special wood-fired oven, where all pizzas and breads are baked. The layout of the whole restaurant moulds around the setting of the oven itself- which is a bonus as people can see how their pizza is baking. “The temperature needs to be proper to make our pizza, that’s why we use only fir tree to stoke” says Mrs Edyta, as she demonstrates; putting one of the pizzas into the wood- fire. There are plenty of pizzerias all around London, some much cheaper than others. Nunzio uses his grandmother's special recipe to make the sourdough. Put together, beautiful authentic Italian ingredients create tasty pleasure to your palate. The one I tried is called La Romana, with delicious tomato sauce, ham and mozzarella. If you are really hungry, you can order the Metro pizza… much to my sorrow, I was too full to even attempt to order it; even if I could get it to go. Of course, the menu includes more than just pizza. Every gastronome has something that pleases their taste buds like, a variety of pasta, lasagnes, or salads. For those with a sweet tooth you can choose from the delectable desserts from different regions of Italy- you have the choice between tiramisu, tarta ricotta pera, tarta caprese or pelati (again everything fresh and baked every day) served with Italian coffee.

Walking into this restaurant is like walking into a vintage living room. There are lovely pictures on the bricked walls, the lamps give off a calm atmosphere, wooden shelves are filled to the brim with Italian books and vintage decorations, and I can see a bar with an old gramophone. All of the interior has been selected and designed by Edyta. ”I really like vintage style. All things what you can see here I bought in Portobello Market. Also my idea of design was a living room. I would like to make our customers feel at home and let them enjoy our food and vines.” I must say that she has an eye for decor as all of the furniture makes me feel comfortable being in her restaurant.

In fact, I noticed that Mrs Edyta cleans the dining room, everything is neat and tidy. The tables are cleaned immediately after every meal. The plates, glasses and cutlery are shiny. The toilets smell nice and fresh. You cannot find any dust build up on the walls or ornaments. It is obvious that in this restaurant cleanliness is just as important as the quality of the food and products.

Mrs Edyta cares about good atmosphere and amazing customer service. Everyone is welcome. She is not only a waitress/owner, but also a good spirit of this place. Even though she works more than 12 hours every day, she always has a smile on her face and is always friendly towards regular and new customers.

Having lunch in Gino&Nnunzios it’s a great experience not only for your taste buds, but also a great place to celebrate your meal as you would celebrate in Italy.
